When Israeli Tennis player Shahar Peer was denied a Visa to play at Dubai’s Tennis Tournament, the global media ripped Dubai into pieces knowing that the UAE has no diplomatic relations with Israel. UAE was threatened and accused of racism, and violation of international law, and and and and (during Israel’s raid on Gaza) …. I remember seeing the most aggressive attack against the UAE for this matter, even Barclays was attacked knowing it was only the sponsor of the tournament!
Just today, Ahmed Al Junaibi, missed the Las Vegas FEI Showjumping World Cup, because his Visa was not issued. Americans can enter the UAE without a Visa because of the “Strong diplomatic relations UAE has with USA”, but Emiratis need to apply in advance for Visas to enter the US. Ahmed applied for his visa over 40 days ago, his horse and horse’ groomer were granted the Visa but not him. I just remembered when I was held for 6 hours in Atlanta without an explanation.
